The Register Colloquium will take place every Monday from 2-4pm. In the colloquium, invited external guests will give talks on the topic of “Registers” and SFB-internal lectures will give opportunities to present and discuss undertakings from individual projects. Unoccupied dates will be filled with the new register reading circle; alternatively, the reading circle will take place after the colloquium.

Register Reading Circle

The register reading group meets every Monday from 2-4pm. If the colloquium is not filled, the reading group will already take place from 2-4pm.

Procedure

We decide on one article per week, which is read until the next meeting and then discussed under the direction of one session leader.

Goal

The aim is to discuss the use of the term “register” and to get to know new concepts and models from different sub-disciplines.

  1. terminology: How is the term “register” used and how does it differ from our use?
  2. concept: Which models are similar to our register term? How can we clearly distinguish them (see “text type”, “functional style”, “style”, “text type” etc.)?
  3. Which models must be implemented for a theoretical elaboration of the register concept (“proximity-distance”, “oral-writtenness”, “narrative”, “literariness”)?
