Building Your Profile & Writing a Great Application (MGK Dissertation & Career Series)

For many researchers, just contemplating first steps on their career path after completing a doctorate can be a bit overwhelming, and it’s not hard to get lost in the sea of job postings, advice, and expectations. What am I qualified for? How can I translate my skills to fit the requirements of the job market? What possibilities are there for me? It can be difficult to know where to start, how to identify your skills and strengths – and for those considering industry, it can be hard to know how to successfully market academic skills to employers outside of academia. Gaining confidence about career options and developing a clearer idea of how to approach the job market effectively will enable researchers early in their careers to set themselves up for success in the future and help them to fully take advantage of all that the university has to offer in their final phase of the doctorate.
