Happily we announce that our application for an X-Student Research Group at the Berlin University Alliance led by Dina Serova and Gohar Schnelle next semester has been accepted!
Together with 15 students from all universities in Berlin, we will carry out a project called „Berliner Inschriften als Quelle für die historische Registerforschung“ on the basis of funerary inscriptions (epitaphs) of the 17th Century in the St. Marienkirche in Berlin.
The focus of the seminar will be the funerary inscriptions (epitaphs) of the 17th Century in the St. Marienkirche in Berlin (Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 8, 10178). As complex historical text-image-compositions, these objects will be jointly assessed and processed according to current standards from Digital Humanities. The goal is to make these resources available for further research in the fields of linguistic, religious, historical, gender, and multimodality studies.
The data collected on the basis of these objects will be published within the framework of the “Reference Corpus of German Inscriptions” (ReDI). The achieved state of research will be presented in a workshop unit. The course combines theoretical and methodological approaches with practical work on the object in the church and is linked to ongoing project work of the CRC 1412 “Register”.
The seminar is aimed at advanced bachelor and master students from Humanities as well as applied historical sciences. The first session will take place on 18th October 2022, 14:00-16:00 (c.t.) in presence at Sophienstr. 22 (room 0.01).
