Dr. Giorgos Spathas is a senior researcher in the SFB project Register and the development of periphrasis in the history of English (SFB Register B01) and in the Research Area 3 ‘Syntax & Lexicon’.
He is primarily interested in the semantics of natural language and its interfaces with syntax and prosody, which he has so far investigated within the interacting domains of binding theory, focus theory and argument structure alternations. His more recent work focuses on inner aspect and attempts to bring together event-decompositional and scalar analyses of verbal predication. In doing so he investigates the role and representation of (relative) measurement across different categories and constructions.
