Han Yao

Project: Register and nominal expressions in Mandarin Chinese

Han Yao did his BASc studies at McGill University in Cognitive Science and his MPhil studies at the University of Oxford in Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics. His research interests span semantics, pragmatics, syntax, and psycholinguistics, and he will study reading and reading disorders in his future PhD studies at the Université de Montréal. His fellowship at ZAS is under project A05 “Modeling meaning-driven register variation: Politeness and face management” and focuses on the relationship between register and the omission of numerals in nominal expressions in Mandarin Chinese.
