Besides the central projects in the CRC, it is structured into three main areas.
Area A: "Register and grammar"
The projects in Area A are concerned with the register dependence of different grammatical phenomena and their modeling in grammatical theories.
Area B: "Register and change"
The projects in Area B investigate how registers emerge and change and how register can affect language change.
Area C: "Register and cognition"
All projects in Area C investigate how register is processed cognitively. In this, both production and reception play a role. Some of the projects do this by considering language acquisition, other test variation in (subtly) different situations.
